DPS chief likens drug war to speeding motorists

Public Safety Commissioner Robert A. Guerrero likened their war on methamphetamine or “ice” in the CNMI to speeding motorists.

Guerrero said that whenever they arrest a bunch of “ice” traffickers, everything slows down then would pick up again.

“It has ups and downs,” he added. “It’s like speeding. You might have a radar, then we will find a way to get you and you will find another way to beat the system. So it’s a revolving issue, I would say,” the commissioner said.

Guerrero said the “ice” problem on Tinian is also being addressed. He said the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force not only concentrates on Saipan but is also monitoring Tinian and Rota.

He said DPS directors on Tinian and Rota are working closely with the Drug Enforcement Administration and DETF.

“Anything that pops up on that area, our unit goes down and checks on it,” he said.

Guerrero appealed for people’s help or the community’s assistance in its strategy against drugs. He said they are more than willing to hear from the community.
