A soccer association is planning to build the first ever soccer field with an artificial turf and a 1,200-seat capacity stadium in Koblerville along As Gonno Road, near the Koblerville fire station.

The soccer field is projected to cost $1.5 million.

The Northern Mariana Islands Football Association applied for a conditional use application with the Commonwealth Zoning board, expressing its desire to construct a roofed soccer field.

Situated in Koblerville, the roofed soccer field, to be named the NMI Soccer Training Center, would be standing on an area of 40,000 square meters and is estimated to be about 40 feet high.

The two-story structure would be composed of a soccer pitch and upper and lower floors for spectator seating and a few other facilities on the ground floor.

The property, which has no existing structures and is currently unused, is owned by the NMIFA, which was represented in the application by NMIFA general secretary Rosauro Zapanta.

The Zoning board, headed by board chair Diego C. Blanco, would be bringing up the application for approval in their board meeting on Dec. 1, at the Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School in San Roque.
