Christmas Village lighting on Nov. 27
For those who are already filled with the holiday spirit, the official Christmas Village lighting will take place on Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose courtyards.
Presented by the Lady Diann Foundation, the village will consist of Christmas-inspired houses created by volunteer participants.
Several houses under construction include Walt Disney’s Frozen-themed house made by Imperial Pacific International Holdings, Ltd. and candy land with Mickey and Minnie by the Youth Affairs Office.
The lighting is scheduled at 6:30pm and is open to the public. From then on, lights will be turned on every Sunday through Thursday at 6pm to 9pm and Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 11pm.
Torres said, “One of my visions as first lady is to bring up the Christmas spirit. In the past, we did tree lightings for the First Lady Tree [first lady Josie Fitial] but this year we wanted to kick it up a notch and invited the public to build little houses. As a result, we created a Christmas Village that will be lit on Nov. 27. We invite the public to come out, enjoy the scene, and take a couple pictures.”
“The event is also going to be a competition among the participants. There was a $50 fee that will help with some expenses and of course our prize. In the end, [we decided to] call [it] the People’s Choice Award. As people come in, we will have representatives from one of my partners present to help attendees place their votes,” Torres said. “Again, we want to lift spirits. I think life is precious and we want everyone to enjoy the season, a season that’s short so we have to make the best of it.”
