Car stolen from rental company found burnt in Marpi
A car that was stolen from a rental company was found totally burnt by the landfill in Marpi on Monday morning, according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services yesterday.
DFEMS acting information officer Linus L. Mizutani Jr. said the cause of fire is undetermined and that further investigation is ongoing.
Mizutani said the department sent a fire truck and a medic unit from the Garapan Fire Station to Marpi by the landfill for a reported vehicle fire on Monday at 10:50am.
Arriving some 10 minutes later, fire lieutenant Raymond Borja noted that there was no smoke or fire on the vehicle, Mizutani said.
A fire investigator then conducted an initial investigation.
Mizutani said the initial investigation showed that the vehicle was not warm when touched and there were no findings of smoke, fire or smoldering.
However, Mizutani said, the vehicle was totally burnt.
“Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was a car rental and was reported stolen from the car rental lot,” the information officer said.
The type of vehicle was not indicated in the report.
Mizutani said the Department of Public Safety should have more information about how the car was stolen.
As of press time, DPS had yet to release information about the car theft.
