Suspected ‘ice’ distributor falls
Members of the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force and Drug Enforcement Administration arrested on Tuesday afternoon a suspected distributor of methamphetamine or “ice” in Gualo Rai.
Jialiang Chen, 25, also known as Brother, was served with an arrest warrant on two counts of trafficking of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $100,000 cash; preliminary hearing is on Nov. 20 at 1:30pm.
Assistant public defender Tillman Clark was appointed as counsel for Chen. Assistant attorney general Betsy Weintraub appeared for the government.
Task force officer Nicholas Aldan Rabauliman reported that they had been looking into Chen’s reported drug activities.
Rabauliman said that during a “buy-walk” operation, a cooperating defendant managed to buy $120 worth of “ice” from Chen in a parking lot of a restaurant in Chalan Laulau last Oct. 21.
The same cooperating defendant was able to buy $240 worth of “ice” from Chen in the parking lot of the same restaurant last Nov. 15, Rabauliman said.
Rabauliman said their test on the seized drugs during the two transactions were presumptive positive for methamphetamine.
Rabauliman did not indicate in the report if they were able to recover more drugs during their search at Chen’s house in China Town and in his vehicles.
