Man allegedly chases girl’s car, punching window

A man who was arrested last month for domestic violence was apprehended anew on Wednesday, this time for allegedly chasing a car driven by a minor and repeatedly punching the window after she refused to open the door.

The 16-year-old girl was panting and her hands were shaking as she and her companion approached a police officer for help. Her 15-year-old male friend, who was her passenger, was also panting, police said.

Jiro Sablan Takai, 22, was arrested in As Lito for disturbing the peace.

At a hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo allowed Takai to post a $500 cash bail. He then posted bail.

Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig was appointed as counsel for Takai. Assistant attorney general Matthew Baisley appeared for the government.

Police detective Catherine B. Pangelinan stated in her report that, according to the girl, she had gone to Kannat Tabla on her Mazda 3 last Oct. 28 before 8am to pick up her friend at his house to go to Southern High School.

When they came out of the Tun Joaquin Doi Road-Martinez Road intersection and headed south, she saw a low rider Nissan truck following her.

When the girl’s vehicle came to a stop at the traffic light intersection by the Guangdong Hardware in As Perdido, she saw on the rearview mirror a man going down from his truck.

The man, later identified as Takai, walked over to the car’s driver side and tried to open the locked door. The girl refused to open it.

Takai then allegedly punched the car’s window several times. She was shouting in the car out of panic. She drove the car and proceeded to her family’s house, which is the residence of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres in Koblerville.

The girl and her friend approached police officer Felixberto Sablan, who was posted at Torres’ house. The minors reported that they had been followed by a man driving a Nissan pickup truck with license plate AEC 601.

While Sablan was entertaining the girl’s complaint, Takai came aboard his truck and told the officer that he wanted to talk to the girl. The officer told Takai to leave the place. Takai left but shouted at the girl, “I’ll see you again on the road.”

Last Nov. 7, the minors identified Takai in the police’s photo lineup as the person who followed their car and punched the window.
