Torres to join visiting Japanese group
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres will be leaving for Japan on Friday, Nov. 11, to accompany a visiting Japanese group that would be coming to Saipan to conduct a ceremony next week. The chartered flight from Shizuoka prefecture will be arriving on Saipan on Saturday.
Officials and guests from Shizuoka will join Torres on the flight that is expected to land at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport in the afternoon.
The Japanese group will be having a memorial ceremony at Banzai Cliff next week.
Before leaving for Japan, Torres is expected to meet with the Commonwealth Ports Authority board and acting executive director Chris Tenorio.
“We [I and the CPA board] are supposed to meet this week and we are still trying to get a schedule this week before I leave for Japan. I will leave Saipan on Friday and will be back here on Saturday,” said Torres.
Issues about the airport would be the main agenda of the meeting as the government is trying to find ways of improving service and its facilities. The runway lights, last Friday, was discovered not working at full capacity again, but CPA technicians quickly repaired the problem and it was fully operational again the same day.
