Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club orients new members

The Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club welcomed and oriented new members last Monday at Kanoa Resort, led by Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club president Annamae Adaza, Lions Club Region 2 chair Ladyvir Canape, and Lions Club zone chair Mario Mayuga.

The orientation was meant to educate newly recruited Lions Club members about the organization and presented past achievements and activities done internationally.

Guam’s Herbie Perez, a past district governor who served as guest speaker, offered some insights about the Lions Club and answered questions from the new recruits.

Attendees consisted mostly of representatives from private companies, staff from the governor’s office, Saipan Mayor’s Office, and Rep. Edmund Villagomez (Ind-Saipan). Also present to offer her support was Lions Club district governor Linda Tolan. Exemptions to the expected attendees were teachers of Marianas High School due to their desire of involving their students with the Leo Clubs.

Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club PRO Cherry Beth Casila and Canape said, “The information presented during the orientation provides a foundation for new members. It helps them understand how the club functions, what their role will be, and gives them the big picture of their district as well as the association. When new members are properly informed, they are more likely to feel comfortable with the club, become actively involved in club activities and remain in Lions for years.”

“The Lions mindset is connect and reach out. Lions think about opportunities to access others. It’s about growing large, widespread networks, enabling them the ability to find anyone in any field. It would be similar to finding needles in a hay stack in order to find those with the most unusual of skill sets. The Lions Club as a whole, focuses on addressing humanitarian needs, improving eye care, supporting the youth, and providing disaster relief,” Casila and Canape said.

Saipan currently has four Lions clubs: the Fil-Am Lions Club, the Saipan Unity Lions Club, the Saipan Marianas Lions Club, and the Saipan Alliance Lion Club.
