NMC search for board chair underway
The Northern Marianas College Board of Regents just recently lost its board chair and is already in the process of looking for possible prospects.
NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez proposed during a board meeting last Oct 28 that a “Regent Nominating Committee” be started in order to select the most capable of applicants. The nominee’s name will be presented to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, who has the final say on who gets appointed as board chair.
The committee will consist of nine members—with one member each from the Board of Regents, NMC College Council, NMC Faculty Senate, NMC Associated Students, NMC Staff Senate, and NMC Alumni Association—all dedicated to the recruiting, evaluating, and nominating of qualified candidates for membership in the NMC Board of Regents.
Two members of the community, both not a government employee nor NMC employee, shall be appointed by the Regent Nominating Committee.
The last member would be a rotation of the mayors, which is to be appointed by the mayor’s council.
The committee is required to submit at least one to three qualified candidates to present to the governor.
