The House of Representatives passed a resolution congratulating five students from Saipan who were recently elected to serve as senators for the 55th Student Government Association of the University of Guam. Rep. Angel A. Demapan (R-Saipan) introduced House Resolution 19-52.

The five are Alexia Faustina Sablan Ada, Jullian Martin P. Briosos, Maria Angelica B. Malasarte, Maria B. Ogarro, and Bertran Franklin Del Rosario Palacios Jr. The students have been active in various campus activities that would help them in their respective future careers.

The UOG-SGA is composed of 15 members—president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and 11 senators—with different majors and various interests. UOG assistant professor Dr. Suzanne Bells McManus, Ph.D. and associate professor Dr. Michael A. Griffin, Ph.D. serve as advisers of the student body.

“These five young remarkable individuals serve as role models to the youth of the Commonwealth to follow and serve as a reminder that a bright future is ahead of us, especially for aspiring students who wish to further their education and become productive contributors to society,” said Demapan.

Ada is currently a sophomore taking up a degree in Health Science with Public Health as major and minor in Health Services Administration. She is the SGA’s Academic Affairs Committee’s chairperson, and a member of the Oversight and Review Committee aside from having a part-time job and attending her classes in the 2016 fall semester.

Briosis is an enlisted member of the Guam Army National Guard after his high school graduation and is now a graphic designer that made several posters and banners for different departments at UOG. This Business Administration sophomore, with Marketing as his major, is also a teaching assistant for the Office of the Dean.

Malasarte is a member of the Finance and Public Relations committees and is in her second year, taking up a degree in Marketing. She wants to be more involved in community outreach events and other environmental awareness campaigns.

Ogarro, a Bill and Melinda Gates scholar, is the current secretary of the UOG’s SGA. She is a graduating BBA senior with concentration on Human Resources Management.

Palacios, a former senator and treasurer of the SGA’s 54th assembly, currently serves as a member of the Finance and Public Relations committees. He is a sophomore taking up Marketing while also the Miss Universe Guam Organization’s publicist and marketing coordinator. He is also the curator/co-owner of Guam Weekly and a member of the UOG chapter of the American Marketing Association.
