Saipan’s annual Halloween event, Trunk or Treat, will take place at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and Kagman Community Center on Oct. 31, 2016. The Rotary Club of Saipan, with the help of other agencies, is organizing the event.

“We will be donating the candies as well as juices and other refreshments to distribute to the public,” said Rotary Club of Saipan president Ivan Ilmov. “We will also be placing our car at the site with our club sign and decorations.”

According to Ilmov, the local Rotary Club plans to have its Interact clubs from Marianas High School and Kagman High School posting themselves next to the Kagman Community Center from 5:30pm until they run out of candies.

“We are trying to bring back some good stuff for the community. Many kids don’t get the chance to eat a lot of candy whenever they want so it’s a good occasion to celebrate for great memories when they grow up,” he said. “I hope we can have enough candy to give out to children for the whole night but unfortunately, from past experiences, it goes away completely within two and a half hours.”

The Rotary Club has been supporting the Trunk or Treat event for about three years, with its president working with the club for 16 years now.

The Rotary Club of Saipan is not the only non-government group at the event, with Trunk or Treat attracting the participation of many government and non-government agencies. The event started out as an annual activity at the American Memorial Park. It has also become a contest on the best decorated trunk and best costume. (Michael T. Santos)
