Judge finds probable cause to charge suspected ‘ice’ source
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho found probable cause yesterday to charge Yan Lung Yu, who was tagged as a source of methamphetamine or “ice” on Saipan.
At a preliminary hearing, Camacho found probable cause to believe that the crime of conspiracy to commit trafficking of a controlled substance was committed and that Yu may have committed the offense.
Camacho ordered the 33-year-old Yu to answer the charge.
At the hearing, assistant attorney general Chester Hinds, counsel for the government, called to the witness stand police detective Roque Camacho, who told the court about their investigation that led to the defendant’s arrest.
Attorney Joseph E. Horey appeared as court-appointed counsel for Yu.
After the hearing, Yu was remanded into the custody of the Department of Corrections.
Yu has been under detention for failing to post a $100,000 cash bail.
CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force agents, along with Department of Public Safety police officers and CNMI Customs K9 Unit, arrested Yu, Juan Delos Reyes Tydingco, Jesse Aguon Villagomez, and a woman while they were serving an arrest warrant on Tydingco at his residence in As Lito last Sept. 23.
DETF said during an interview, Tydingco confessed that Yu has been his source of “ice” for over a year now.
Tydingco allegedly stated that prior to the arrival of DETF agents last Sept. 23, Villagomez handed him $300 to help him buy “ice.”
Tydingco allegedly called Yu to purchase $300 worth of “ice.”
