Northern Marianas College Board of Regents member Cyndi Deleon Guerrero was recently elected to serve on the Nominating Committee of the Association of Community College Trustees as a representative of the Pacific Region Caucus.

Deleon Guerrero was nominated by voting delegate Debra Entenman, trustee of Renton Technical College of Washington State and elected to the post by the voting-delegates of the Pacific Regional Caucus during the ACCT’s recent Leadership Congress. The ACCT Pacific Region includes representatives from California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Idaho, Utah, Guam, American Samoa, Marshall Islands, and Palau.

“Although my election to the Pacific Regional Nominating Committee is a great honor for me, it’s also an important recognition for the Northern Mariana Islands, which will now have a greater say in the representation of Pacific Islanders when higher educational issues are discussed at the national level,” said Deleon Guerrero. “I look forward to engaging with the other members of the committee to see how we can continue to grow educational opportunities and access for all college students, especially those from the CNMI.”

Among the topics discussed at the Leadership Congress was the “College Promise,” a national proposal to make two years of community college free for responsible students, which has continued to gain support and acceptance nationally. Accreditation issues, Pell challenges, and other critical higher education issues were also discussed.

The ACCT is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond.

Located in Washington, D.C., ACCT is a major voice of community college trustees to the presidential administration, U.S. Congress, the Departments of Education and Labor and more.

ACCT educates community and technical college trustees through annual conferences focused on leadership development and advocacy, as well as through publications and online and face-to-face institutes and seminars. (NMC)
