Barcinas gets full scholarship for JSA summer program
A student from Rota was recently accepted to Georgetown University with a full scholarship for the Junior Statesmen of America Summer Program.
Randee-Jo M. Barcinas is a junior student at Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr./Sr. High School.
The daughter of Randolph and Marla Barcinas will be studying Speech and Political Communication and is schedule to depart today, July 13, 2012. She is expected to return on Aug. 8.
In preparation for her summer program, Barcinas focused on the congressional workshop, a congressional-style debate program that is a crucial part of the summer school experience.
The full scholarship is part of the Department of the Interior scholarships for the 2012 JSA Summer Schools. The scholarship will cover her tuition, room and board, and travel expenses.
Based on the JSA packet provided to Barcinas, the summer school consists of outstanding high school students from across the globe, young people who are involved in their communities and schools, and who have passion for politics and loves challenges. Barcinas, as its new scholar, will join a prestigious group of JSA alumni worldwide.
Courses offered at the summer program are described as intensive and demanding. Classes meet six days a week and each course meets for a total of 85 hours during the three-week program. Graduation for the summer program is slated on Aug. 5.
