Clinical outreach program on Capital Hill

Joy Songsong, Breast and Cervical Screening program coordinator, along with members of the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, conducted a clinical outreach on Capital Hill yesterday to make time for men and women who have a hard time finding the occasion to get themselves checked.
The clinical outreach program started at 7:30am all the way to 4pm.
“Today and for the next week we are going to be setting up breast cancer outreach clinics doing clinical breast exams but we’ll also be offering blood pressure and blood sugar checks for men. We are trying to reach the working women who always have a hard time getting out for work to get checked, so we decided to bring the clinic to them,” said Songsong.
Songsong said that the main goal of the clinical outreach is to target working women and try to detect breast lumps as early as possible for the highest possible success rate of treatment.
“We’re also doing weight, nutrition, Pap smear, and the different programs that are available,” said Songsong. “We also offer family planning services, but for today they weren’t able to make it. They would be able to make on the other days.”
Family planning is a program that provides services to women of child bearing age. The main goal of the program is to assist women who are looking to have children and make sure that the mother is healthy enough to bear children.
The DFEMS, Commonwealth Cancer Association, Aircraft Rescue Firefighters, Marianas Health Services, American Red Cross, and the Triathlon Association of the CNMI are helping one another to set up the clinics throughout the week.
The next setup is on Thursday, across the fire station on Capital Hill, from 8am to 11:30am.
