GCA 1 and 2 extend streak; split for SIS

Grace Christian Academy’s two teams are on a roll, while Saipan International School posted contrasting results in the middle school division of the 2016-2017 Coalition of Private Schools Sports Association Volleyball League.

GCA 1 is 10-0, pending the result of its game against Marianas Baptist Academy yesterday. The Eagles bagged their 10th victory last Tuesday after sweeping Whispering Palms at the GCA court, 25-7, 25-10, 15-12. In its Oct. 6 game, GCA 1 also won over Agape Christian School, 25-7, 25-6.

GCA 2, on the other hand, are on a three-game winning streak, starting its run on Oct. 6 with a 16-25, 25-10, 15-13 victory against Whispering Palms at the Eagles’ turf. Then last Tuesday, GCA 2 prevailed over Mt. Carmel School 2, 25-8, 25-20, while the Eagles faced Seventh Day Adventist yesterday and took a 25-10, 25-12 triumph to improve its record to 7-4.

In other results, SDA pulled off an upset over the second-running SIS 1 last Tuesday, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13, while SIS 2 avoided a Geckos shutdown after topping Agape, 25-21, 25-19. The defending champion SIS 1 fell to a 10-2 mark, while SIS 2 gained a 2-8 slate.

Saipan Community defeated MBA last Tuesday, 25-21, 25-5,9-15. The Tsunamis also got the early win in their Oct. 4 match versus SDA, 25-13, 25-22.

The middle school league is on the second and final round of the regular season and games will resume on Tuesday.

GCA 1 hopes to extend its streak next week when it takes on SDA at the Eagles court. GCA 2 will aim for its eighth victory when it faces Agape at the Torchbearers’ turf. Other pairings in the Oct. 18 matches are Mt. Carmel School 1 vs. Whispering Palms at MCS; SIS 2 vs. MBA at MBA; and SIS 1 vs. SCS at SIS.
