Applicants sought for Live Your Dream award
The Soroptimist International Club NMI Chapter is inviting the public to their next event, “Live Your Dream,” which aims to support the college education of a full-time mother. “Live Your Dream” is set to take place on Nov. 5 at Kanoa Resort Saipan. The event’s highlight is the awarding of the Live Your Dream Award, which aims to financially support the awardees’ family while the mother attends college.
Jill Arenovski, chairperson of Soroptimist International’s Way and Means Committee, highlighted the club’s activities during the Rotary Club Saipan’s meeting last Oct 11 at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
“Our club was chartered here four years ago. On Nov. 5 we would be having our charter celebration and ‘Live you Dream’ award where we award a woman attending college primary financial support for her family,” said Arenovski.
Arenovski said the Soroptimist Club would be processing applicants before Oct. 15.
“We advertise this fairly aggressively, and we’ve contacted [women who might] possibly be interested. Our biggest success here was at NMC. Over the course of a weekend, a whole inbox of women wanted to find out about it. I’ve already gotten two applications and the deadline is not until Oct. 15. We’re really proud that people are getting to know this club and that word is getting out there,” said Arenovski. She said that past recipients of the award will be present at the Nov. 5 event.
She said the goal of the club is to empower women through education. The club does projects that support the women’s shelter. Another project of the Soroptimists are the donation of books to the library at Kagman.
Arenovski said a local craft fair would also be present on Nov. 5, and that those that wish to go to the craft fair are welcome.
The “Live Your Dream” event is a wine-tasting event and also the charter celebration of Soroptimist Club. It will last from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Seaside Hall of Kanoa Resort. Tickets are priced at $40, while tables for six are priced at $200. Those interested in reserving a table for six must contact Arenovski at soroptimistnmi@gmail.com.
Beer would also be served.
Those interested in applying for the award may apply through Facebook before Oct. 15, at “Soroptimist Int. of Northern Mariana Islands.”
