Workforce Investment Agency Summer trainee Britney C. Takai served as an administrative assistant trainee for the Division of Administrative Services under the Department of Public Works over the summer.

According to administrative services director Peter Camacho, Takai was trained for a wide range of administrative and personnel related procedures within the division.

Camacho stated that the Administrative Services Division is responsible with the oversight of six divisions within the Department of Public Works along with maintaining and updating the departments policies and regulations; personnel management; procurement; public relations; program development; budget analysis and preparation.

Takai operated office machines and was responsible for directing calls to the appropriate divisions.

“She was a big help to updating our filing system either manually or by using a computer. She participated in routing documents and correspondences, compiling, copying, sorting, and filing records and other related office documents as assigned. Ms. Takai was also communicating with customers, employees and other individuals by answering questions, disseminating or explaining information and forwarding complaints to immediate supervisor,” Camacho said.

To date, the Administrative Services Division continues to control and monitor all expenditures and guidance and support to various divisions within DPW in the area of administrative policies and regulations and other personnel needs.

This training was made possible through the Workforce Investment Act enacted in August 1998 to develop a more cohesive workforce development system that will provide easy access to services and information for individuals and businesses.

WIA, under the CNMI Department of Labor, continues to increase the employment, retention, and earnings of participants, and increase occupational skill attainment by the participants, and, as a result, improve the quality of the workforce, reduce welfare dependency and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the local workforce.
