SSHS receives help from private sector

Saipan Southern High School received more than $10,000 worth of equipment and supplies that would help school personnel in various ways. SSHS’ 2015-2016 Parent-Teacher-Student Association helped make the donation of a brand new lawnmower and classroom supplies possible.

SSHS received a new lawnmower last week that would help in the maintenance of the campus grounds. The lawnmower, a Rover Kohler 7000 Series Tractor, is worth $6,000 with several partners pitching in.

PTSA president Glenna SP Reyes, who will finish her term along with other officers on Aug. 25, said the lawnmower was made possible with the help of Joeten Ace Hardware president Priscilla Tenorio, HPI, LLC, House vice speaker Joseph P. Deleon Guerrero (Ind-Saipan), and Rep. Antonio P. Sablan (Ind-Saipan).

Reyes said SSHS principal Martha Kintol asked for her help in trying to get a new riding lawnmower since the one that’s being used had been breaking down regularly with Faustino Tmilchol, the school’s maintenance personnel, having a hard time to properly do his job.

The school’s riding lawnmower broke down last June when they were preparing for the graduation ceremony of Class 2015-2016. The PTSA then asked for the Division of Parks and Recreation and the Department of Public Works to prepare the grounds.

It was then that the SSHS PTSA reached to their partners to help them get a new lawnmower. “Thank you to all our partners for assisting us in providing the school the equipment needed to maintain the campus grounds for the students and school personnel,” said Reyes.

Pacifica Insurance Underwriters, meanwhile, donated $4,500 worth of classroom supplies to be used by all SSHS teachers.

“Thank you to Pacifica Insurance executive vice president and general manager Shirley Sablan for their help in securing the much needed classroom supplies,” said Reyes.

“I am currently coordinating with a vendor for the procurement and delivery of the supplies to help our teachers with their classroom needs, stated Reyes,” she added.

The SSHS PTSA also made possible the stage that is currently being constructed with the help of E-Land Group. The project has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances and they are expecting contractor H&H Construction to complete it next month.

The delay in construction also postponed their final project, the two wooden canopies or pala-pala to complement the stage. That project is separately funded by Best Sunshine International, Ltd.’s Corporate Social Responsibility 1 Team.
