Strong winds, scattered showers to continue until the weekend

Persistent monsoon flow is expected to bring strong southwest winds with scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Marianas through at least the end of the week, while a small craft advisory remains in effect until Friday at 7pm.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Guam yesterday, periods of heavy rainfall and flooding are still possible throughout the week for the Marianas.

NWS again advised the people to avoid venturing into the coastal waters until hazardous seas and dangerous seas and rip currents subside.

NWS said a small craft advisory remains in effect until Friday at 7pm as southwest winds of 20 to 25 knots and combined seas of 10 to 12 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small boats.

NWS said inexperienced mariners, especially those operating small vessels, should avoid sailing in these conditions.

“Avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches especially those facing west and south as rip currents will be life-threatening,” the weather agency said.
