The DCCA-Division of Youth Services coordinated the 2016 Summer Youth Empowerment Camp, which involved a two-week program with the first week focusing on sports and wellness and second week on arts/craft.
The sports and wellness covered various sports activities and community presentations ending the week with fun filled water sports activities. The following week featured arts/crafts activities with a culminating event held on July 29. The camp catered to over 120 youth participants ages 6-13 and close to 40 youth volunteers ages 14-17.
The huge success would not have been possible without the partnership efforts with the following agencies and organizations: DYS parent leaders and volunteers, CNMI Council for Arts and Culture, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. Division of Public Health and Community Guidance Center Crisis Counseling, Carolinian Affairs Office, Public School System Food and Nutrition Services, Department of Public Safety, Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Let’s Move Marianas, Northern Marianas College, Northern Marianas Sports Association, Hoe Lokahi Club, Saipan Paddling Club, NAPU Outrigger, Commonwealth Cancer Association, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library/Motheread and Fatheread, Best Sunshine International, Ltd., Commonwealth Women’s Association, and Seventh-Day Adventist Clinic.
