Suspected ‘ice’ trafficker re-arrested; $100K cash bail imposed
A suspected supplier of methamphetamine or “ice” who was arrested last June but was later released after he agreed to serve as an informant with law enforcement, was re-arrested and brought before the Superior Court yesterday for bail hearing.
Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio imposed a $100,000 cash bail on Joseph T. White, also known as Dims, for two counts of trafficking of controlled substance and two counts of illegal possession of controlled substance.
Kim-Tenorio set the preliminary hearing for Aug. 15 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as counsel for the 25-year-old White. Assistant attorney general Jonathan Robert Glass Jr. appeared as counsel for the government.
Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds on Monday filed a motion to unseal documents in White’s case and a motion to revoke the stipulation for release of defendant from custody.
Drug Enforcement Task Force agents arrested White last June 3 after their “cooperating defendant” managed to purchase 0.6 gross grams of “ice” worth $130 from White in a parking lot of a commercial building in Garapan last April 5, and another “cooperating source” was able to buy 0.9 gross grams of “ice” from the defendant in a parking lot of Treasure Island Poker in Garapan later on that same day.
Hinds said upon being arrested, White requested to assist law enforcement as a cooperating defendant/informant, provided that DETF would agree to release him without cash subject to certain conditions.
The government agreed and requested the court that all documents in this case be filed under seal to protect the confidentiality of ongoing drugs investigation.
The court then granted the motion to seal, as well as the release of White subject to some conditions.
Hinds said however, White, has “come to an end” with law enforcement in ongoing investigations.
Thus, Hinds said, there is no need to continue keeping under seal all documents in this case, nor should White be permitted to remain on release on own recognizance.
Hinds recommended a $100,000 cash bail on White.
Kim-Tenorio granted the government’s motion.
