With over 200 participants, ranging from community members, volunteers, and Tan Holdings employees led by president Jerry Tan, last Saturday’s JP Memorial Walk Glow Run & Health Fair was an unqualified success.
Kicking off the event at the Garapan Fishing Base was the opening speech of Commonwealth Cancer Association director Juan L. Babauta. He shared CCA’s goals and programs and thanked Tan Holdings and other companies and organizations that continue to donate and support CCA.
A couple of members of the CNMI national boys U14 team then held an exhibition that saw them do all sorts of tricks with the football to the amazement of the crowd.
Latte Fitness Built owner and personal trainer Derek Cutting then led the participants to a five-minute warm-up prior to the 3- and 5-kilometer runs to the Gold Beach Hotel Saipan and Japanese Tank Memorial, respectively.
On the side, Department of Fire and Emergency Services staff was available for on-the-spot blood pressure tests.
Lighting up the mood after the run was a raffle drawing held by organizers that saw a number of participants come home with prizes like a round-trip ticket to the Philippines and gift certificates from Fiesta Resort & Spa, Kanoa Resort, Century Hotel, D&Q, Cosmos Distributors, Let’s Go Tour Company, and Shirley’s Coffee Shop.
All the funds raised from the JP Memorial Walk Glow Run & Health Fair will be given to the 2017 Marianas March Against Cancer on behalf of Tan Holdings.
The event was in honor of former Saipan Tribune publisher John Pangelinan, who was born on Oct. 26, 1937 and died on Feb. 5, 2008 after a long and brave battle against cancer.
Tan Holdings vice president for Corporate Affairs Catherine M. Attao thanked everyone who took part in last Saturday’s event.
“On behalf of the family of our late John Pangelinan, and from the planning committee in partnership with Corporate Affairs, we wanted to thank each and every one of you who came out and participated in the 8th Annual JP Memorial Run. It was a great evening, filled with fun and laughter. We are looking forward to next year’s event,” she said.
