Judge revokes suspended sentence on teenager facing new criminal case

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho has revoked the suspended sentence on a teenager who is facing a new criminal case while on probation.

In a written order issued yesterday, Camacho sentenced the 19-year-old Ashiqur Rahaman, also known as Simon Kosam, to the full maximum sentence of 10 months imprisonment, to be served daily without the possibility of parole.

Rahaman was given credit of 57 days of time served. He was remanded into the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Camacho said the grounds for re-imposing the suspended sentence is because the defendant failed to obey all laws of the CNMI when he picked up a new criminal case.

The new case charged Rahaman with two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree.

Rahaman allegedly engaged in sex with his 15-year-old girlfriend twice in the Garapan area.

In a 2015 case, Rahaman pleaded guilty to assault and battery.
