Bears players zero in on batting, pitching titles

The Chalan Kanoa Bears’ A.J. and Jeffrey Lizama are on top of the pitching and batting races with one game left in their regular season schedule in the 2016 Saipan Baseball League.
A.J. is ahead in the batting contest as he posted an average of .481 after their 11-10 victory against Titanium last Wednesday. He went 26-for-54 at bat in the Bears’ 13 wins in as many games in the double round-robin elimination to lead the BSI Aces’ Ben Jones Junior. Jones, whose team has also one game remaining in the regular season, was 18-for-42 at the plate in 13 games for an average of .429.
Three other player earned an average of over .400 with the Brewers’ Nokki Saralu logging .423 (22-for-52), the Yankees’ Franko Nakamura tallying .417 (20-for-48), and the Aces’ Joe Tudela recording .404 (19-for-47).
Rounding out the Top 10 are the Brewers’ Pat Alepuyo (19-for-48/.386), North Starz’s Roke Tenorio (21-for-53/.396), the Falcons’ J.J. Lifoifoi (15-for-38/.395), the Brewers’ Anthony Tenorio (22-for-56/.393), and the Falcons’ Giovanni Mira (18-for-47/.383).
In the pitching race, Jeffrey Lizama’s 0.88 ERA topped the records of 10 others on the leaderboard. In 13 games, Lizama pitched 30.2 innings and yielded only three runs.
The Bears pitcher is ahead of the Aces’ Michael Muna Jr., and teammate A.J. Lizama, who have identical ERAs of 1.32. Muna pitched 47.2 innings and gave up seven runs, while only four runs were scored against A.J. during his 27.1 innings stint on the mound.
Others on the leaderboard are the Bears’ Jose Lizama Jr. (1.64), the Falcons’ Frankie Lieto (2.08)m the Brewers’ Vince Cepeda (2.28), North Starz’s Jared Camacho (2.57), the Aces’ Lancaster Secharmidal (2.63), the Aces’ Mike Iguel (2.76), Titanium’s Joe Palacios (2.86), and the Blue Jays’ Aaron Benavente (3.15).
In other categories, Saralu leads three divisions. He is ahead in doubles with six, nosing out the 5 of Jose Lizama Jr. and A.J. Lizama. Saralu also has a lone homer to share the lead with the Aces’ Lamarc Iguel and the Bears’ Peyton Lizama. In triples, Saralu and Iguel are also in a tie with four each.
In RBIs, A.J. Lizama’s 20 gave him the top spot against Saralu (17) and Tudela (15), while Juan Iguel’s 23 runs pace the 22, 21, and 20 of A.J. Lizama, Peyton Lizama, and Roke Tenorio, respectively.
