DCCA’s Child Care & Development Fund meets with providers

The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Child Care & Development Fund held a meeting with providers at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi- Purpose Center to discuss and share the newly approved FY 2016 to 2018 CNMI Child Care and Development Fund State Plan.

Discussions focused on the provider requirement of Pre-Service hours, ongoing Training and Technical Assistance, and requirements on Developmental Screenings, contents of provider Program Policies and Procedures, and preventing expulsion, suspension, and limiting services to children and families. This meeting was facilitated by the CCDF administrator Maribel Loste. A total of 28 participants were present that included directors, owners, and their staff.

CCDF providers also were given training on Classroom and Playground Safety. This three-hour training held at the Multi- Purpose Center included discussion on elements in a facility and playground area that affect children’s safety, practical ways to modify the environment to promote child safety and explore the role of parents and staff education in promoting child safety.

The facilitator for this training was Loste and was participated by 40 childcare providers, including license-exempt providers. This training is aligned to CCDF’s ongoing efforts toward higher quality childcare services as well as providers’ ongoing professional development.
