DPL eyes ‘scattered lottery’ for newly available lots

The Department of Public Lands says they continue to review its homestead applicant listing, thinning them down in recent months, and says some lots are ready for a “scattered lottery.”

“We have people put in appeal letters to those that were issued revocations in the last two months or so. Last week, I received three appeal letters so those have been forwarded to our hearing officer,” DPL Secretary Marianne Teregeyo told Saipan Tribune in a recent interview.

She said DPL at the moment has 37 lots opened for “scattered lottery” but are not ready to open them yet.

Scattered lottery means various homestead lots “mixed around” in Dandan, some in Kagman I, II, III, for example, that were made available after were revoked and not appealed.

“We have…37 ready for scattered lottery,” Teregeyo said. “We are going to entertain the next folks on the list.”

In related news, Teregeyo also said they’ve recently hired a new homestead director. Director Frank Songsong, she said, used to work for Duenas & Associates out of Guam and fills a position that has been held by interim directors for about two years.
