Kana Resort is still perfect following a 78-56 demolition of Pacific Oriental, Inc. in the curtain-raiser in the 2016 Tan Holdings Inter-Company Basketball League last Friday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

Kanoa hiked its unbeaten mark to 7-0, while POI fell to a 1-6 slate.

The trio of Matt and Ernest Duenas and Douglas Schmidt made it easy for Kanoa to extend its winning streak after they scored in double figures. Matt had a game-high 22 points, while Schmidt added 20, and Ernest contributed 10 as their combined output nearly matched the production of the entire POI crew.

Schmidt started things off for Kanoa, knocking in 8 of the team’s first 10 points. He finished the opening 20 minutes of play with 14 markers, while Matt and Ernest totaled 12 to lift Kanoa to a 33-23 halftime advantage.

The lead ballooned in the second half as Matt scored in streaks and other Kanoa players were given enough playing time with the game out of POI’s reach. Rico Villagomez, Dindo Pablo, and Mico Usi came out to play more minutes and combined for 21 points.

Kyung Min Yu had 14 markers to lead POI’s losing cause, while Ferdie Arago and Jessie Santos chipped in 10 each.

In the second game, Shirley’s Coffee Shop played better in the second half to beat Lower Base, 47-39.

Shirley’s now has a 4-3 record for third place in the team standings, while Lower Base dropped to a 1-6 mark.

John Jugos, Angel Catungal, and Jerome Pollisco teamed up in handing Shirley’s its second straight win in the second round of the regular season. Jugos tallied 13 points, while Catungal and Pollisco logged 12 apiece.

Catungal scored 7 straight markers midway in the second half to keep Shirley’s distance, while Jugos and Pollisco provided enough production at the start of the final frame to grab the upper hand. Lower Base led at the beginning of the second half.
