Sapong races in World U20 tourney today

The CNMI’s Zarinae Sapong is among the 54 runners competing in the qualifying races for the 100m event in the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships today at the Zawisza Stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
The 18-year-old runner is on Heat 4, Lane 3 of the preliminary races, which will start at 12:35pm (past 8pm on Saipan). Sapong’s heat is scheduled for 12:56pm. The Commonwealth bet will run against South Africa’s Thomas Tamzin, Poland’s Ewa Swoboda, Nigeria’s Mercy Ntia-Obong, the Philippines’ Kayla Richardson, Canada’s Shyvonne Roxborough, Israel’s Diana Vaisman, and Australia’s Samanta Geddes.
Swoboda has the fastest qualifying time on Heat 4 with her 11.18 seconds, while Sapong’s personal best is 13.35 seconds.
Overall, American runner Candice Hill owns the best time in the field at 10.98 seconds. She is on Heat 2, Lane 8, competing against Ukraine’s Yana Kachur, Czech Republic’s Veronika Palickova, Bahamas’ Davine Parker, New Zealand’s Lucy Sheat, Jamaica’s Patrice Moody, Angola’s Liliana Neto, and Germany’s Chantat Butzek.
In other heats, the favored runners are Trinidad and Tobago’s Khalifa St. Fort (11.16 seconds), Great Britain’s Imani-Lara Lansiquot (11.25 seconds), Bahrain’s Imana Isla Jassim (11.26 seconds), and Colombia’s Evelyn Rivera (11.20 seconds).
The Top 3 finishers in each heat and the next six fastest times will qualify to the semifinals of the 100m run. The semis race will be held tomorrow.
