Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Victor Hocog have made some recent appointments to the local hospital’s advisory board as well as the Board of Regents for the Northern Marianas College.

Hocog, as acting governor, in a July 18 letter, appointed Julian Calvo, from Rota, to serve as member of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. Board of Trustees.

The appointment requires the advice and consent of the Senate and if confirmed, Calvo will serve a four-year term expiring in 2019.

Torres also, in a July 16 letter, appointed Michael Evangelista of Saipan to serve as a member of NMC’s Board of Regents, a position that is also subject to advice and consent from the Senate.

If confirmed, Evangelista will serve immediately and his term will expire in May 2020.

“I am confident that Mr. Evangelista will devote his time and efforts on this important board,” Torres wrote in another July 16 letter to Senate President Frank Borja (Ind-Tinian). “His appointment and subsequent confirmation by the CNMI Senate will allow our islands’ primary institution of post-secondary education the support necessary to provide high-quality, affordable and accessible education programs and services for the individual and people of the Commonwealth.”
