Neighbor says wife doesn’t want to be bothered, tries to chase out cops

There were obvious signs that the body of a Chinese farmer had been lifeless for some time before he was found outside his house in As Lito on Saturday early morning, according to police yesterday.
Department of Public Safety acting spokesman Jason Tarkong also identified the victim as 59-year-old Li Qian Ding, who was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center’s morgue.
Tarkong said a witness found Ding lying face down outside his house and called 911.
Tarkong said police responded to the scene on Saturday at 6am.
He said police and Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services emergency medical technicians arrived at the couple’s farm and discovered Ding no pulse and not breathing.
“Based on preliminary findings this case is classified as a homicide. The investigation is ongoing,” Tarkong said.
A source said it was the wife, a Carolinian, who found Ding’s body on the ground.
A neighbor told Saipan Tribune yesterday that the wife does not want to be bothered and even chased out police officers who went back to the scene on Sunday to conduct further investigation.
The neighbor said Ding, also known as Papasang, would usually start working at their farm surrounding the house using a headlight as early as 2am.
The neighbor said dogs were really barking very loud that early morning.
Apparently, the neighbor said, the wife was waiting for Ding to drink his tea and when he failed to show up, she looked outside the house.
The neighbor said the wife found Ding on the ground under a mango tree located a few steps from their house.
The neighbor said she heard that Ding was possibly strangled and his body was dragged toward the mango tree area.
A source said blunt objects were found next to Ding’s body.
The neighbor said it’s only the couple staying in the house for 10 years now as they have no children together.
