The Marianas Visitors Authority is encouraging young people to get involved in the tourism industry and make the most of their summer vacation by participating in the MVA’s island cleanup program Beautify My Marianas.
The Beautify My Marianas program offers $100 for each 1-mile cleanup in assigned areas on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota to student and other groups.
“With summer out and kids needing things to do, I’d like to see more of our youth participate in the Beautify My Marianas program and earn cash while supporting the tourism industry,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “This is a great opportunity to learn the value of taking care of our natural resources, which benefits both residents and tourists, alike.”
For more information or an application for Beautify My Marianas, interested youth may visit the MVA homepage at www.mymarianas.com. Applications must first be submitted for approval at least three days prior to the requested cleaning date. Groups will remove trash from both sides of the roadway, and when participants are 17 years and younger, the group must have an adult supervisor for every five minors. The group must provide their own supplies and materials needed for the cleanup and must properly dispose of garbage collected at the Transfer Station. Each group must provide a written report, photos (before, during, and after) of the activity, a name list of participants, the receipt from the Transfer Station, and an invoice (an invoice template is provided with the application). All documents must be submitted within two weeks after the completion of the activity. Upon signing the application, the group will retain all liability for accidents, injuries, etc. during the cleanup. (PR)
