International Festival of Cultures begins Aug. 20
The 2nd Annual International Festival of Cultures will be held for six consecutive Saturday evenings on Saipan beginning on Aug. 20, 2016.
The festival will be held Aug. 20 & 27 and September 3, 10, 17, & 24 at Paseo deMarianas in Garapan and will celebrate the cultural diversity of the Northern Mariana Islands, with special emphasis on the indigenous cultures of Micronesia.
The Marianas Visitors Authority is seeking representative groups of different cultures to participate in planning for the event. Representative groups may contact MVA Community Projects Sspecialist Ryan Calvo at rcalvo@mymarianas.com or 664-3210 for more information.
“We are once again inviting all cultural groups represented in the Northern Marianas, whether big or small, to be a part of this year’s International Festival of Cultures, one of the newest and most exciting cultural celebrations of the year,” said MVA Community Projects manager Martin Duenas. “We know there is a lot of residual enthusiasm from the Festival of Pacific Arts held this summer, and we expect some of that enthusiasm is going to spill over and make this year’s International Festival of Cultures even richer than the first time. Please call us to participate.”
The festival will include cultural demonstrations, arts and crafts, and food sales beginning at 5pm and live cultural entertainment from 6-10pm. Admission is free.
