Liberation Day goes live on social media
Since the opening night on June 10, the 2016 CNMI Liberation Day Festivities has been the main venue for the Saipan’s nightly entertainment. However, live entertainment from the Liberation Day Festivities is not just for Saipan, but also for the communities of the neighboring islands as well as the locals residing in the mainland. This is another groundbreaking achievement inspired by Skywalker Communications Group, in cooperation with the Saipan Mayor’s Office and the Liberation Day Committee with assistance from IT&E.
This year, Skywalker Communications has decided to live broadcast the performances and event at the festival grounds for the first time in the history of CNMI. “The idea came from the recent technology advancement in Facebook, where we can post live broadcasts” said Etti, account executive of Skywalker Communications, “We have analyzed the growth of social media, especially Facebook in the islands, and it is getting increasingly popular, so we decided to use this platform for broadcasting live performances for the world to see. The result has been spectacular.” With this idea, Skywalker Communications approached one of the principal sponsors of the Liberation Day Festivities, IT&E, to provide high-speed Internet services at the festival grounds for live broadcasting.
Dr. Bo Hu, president of Skywalker Communications, envisioned the Liberation Day festivities to not only bring joy to the local community, but also be a source of attraction for tourists to visit the island and attend the events. “I think The Liberation Day Festivities also serves as a platform for tourists to witness the truly beautiful and rich culture of the CNMI, the culture that I fell in love with,” said Dr. Bo, “keeping that in mind, we decided to live broadcast the Liberation Day performances on our Liberation Day Facebook page, so that people from other parts of the world can watch the incredible performances and be inspired from it. Credit goes to one of our principal sponsors, IT&E, for arranging the live broadcasts
In 2016, Skywalker Communications used the social media platform to promote the 2016 CNMI Liberation Day Festivities, and to great effect. Skywalker Communications’ social media team has been posting news, photos, videos, and any updates relating to the Liberation Day Festivities on the “CNMI Liberation Day Festivities” Facebook page. The idea of posting live videos of the performances on the stage created a huge buzz in the community. Skywalker Communications is also using the social media platform to engage with the people of the CNMI in order to improve the festivities even further. The Liberation Day page has been viewed, in average, by around 75,000 people every month, from all across the world, with 36,000 post engagements with the viewers. Such exposure is also attracting tourists to visit the island. (PR)
