Tropical depression Nepartak to bring showers to Marianas today

A tropical depression that has formed south of Guam has been intensifying and is expected to become a tropical storm that would bring showers and thunderstorms to the Mariana Islands last night and during the day today, Monday.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Guam, as of 5pm yesterday, Tropical Depression Nepartak was spotted 50 miles northeast of Faraulep, 310 miles east of Fais, 370 miles east of Ulithi, 470 miles east of Yap, and 295 miles south of Guam.

Packing maximum sustained winds at 35 miles per hour, Nepartak was moving northeast at 5mph and is expected to turn to the northwest with an increase in forward speed in the next 12 hours.

NWS said Nepartak will bring showers and some thunderstorms along with winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30mph to the Mariana Islands last night and during the day today.

NWS urged residents of the Marianas to closely monitor the progress of Nepatak by keeping up with NWS’ and Emergency Management Office’s latest statements and advisories.
