Coast Guard cutter Washington holds change of command ceremony
SANTA RITA, Guam—Lt. Collinson Burgwyn relieved Lt. Ronald Miller as the Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Cutter Washington.
Coast Guard Cutter Washington’s change of command took place Friday at Sumay Cove, Naval Base Guam. The ceremony was presided by Capt. James Pruett, Commander, Coast Guard Sector Guam. The event was attended by RADM Vincent Atkins, Commander, 14th Coast Guard District. Family, friends, and Coasties from the various units on Guam wished LT Miller fair winds and following seas as he embarks upon his new assignment.
Lt. Miller and Lt. Burgwyn both received their commission as Ensigns from the USCG Officer Candidate School in New London, CT in 2008. Lt. Miller is a native of San Clemente, California. Lt. Burgwyn is a native of the Tidewater area of Virginia.
Washington is the 31st of 49 “Island Class” cutters, measuring 110 feet in length and was built to replace the Coast Guard’s 95-foot “Cape Class” patrol boat fleet in the late 1980s. Washington conducts Search and Rescue response, Ports Waterways and Coastal Security operations, and enforces the Laws and Treaties of the United States in and around Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Republic of Palau, and Federated States of Micronesia.
