3 pairs crowned champions in badminton tourney

Three teams made it to the champions circle in the 2016 Tan Holdings Mixed Doubles and 45+ BC Badminton Tournament after their playoff games were completed over the weekend at the TSL Sports Complex.
Kim Haram and Kim Min Seo were the first ones to be crowned champions after sweeping Tae Ho Kim and Vilma Reyes in the mixed doubles C finals, 21-11, 21-13. Seo and Haram advanced to the finals after a similar two-game victory against Jun and Baby Banadera in the semis, 21-9, 21-16, while Reyes and Tae Ho took the long route to the finals following a tough 21-7, 15-21, 22-20 triumph over A.J. Ortega and Merlie Savellano in the other semis tiff.
In the mixed doubles AB finals, Deether Edralin and Rowena Sison also needed three games before downing Ferdie Arago and Windy Fernandez, 15-21, 21-16, 21-16. The eventual champions moved into the title match after slipping past Jen Savellano and Joel Ortega in the semis, 14-21, 21-7, 22-20, while Arago and Fernandez swept Rodwealth Espana and Lanie Bartolome in the other Final Four pairing, 21-8, 23-21.
In the mixed doubles BC 45+ division, Celso Agui and Baby Banadera eased their way to the title victory after winning via walkover against Elna Curate and Tae Ho Kim. Agui and Banadera took the first finals seat following a 16-21, 22-20, 21-14 triumph over Roger Valles and Merlie Savellano, while Tae Ho Kim and Curate dominated Roxe Lazaro and Ariel Mariano, 21-15, 21-14, in the other semis game.
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles B, it will be the pair of Oh Im Bog and Windy Fernandez versus the tandem of Espana and Ito. The two finalists swept their semis foes to arrange their title showdown with Oh and Windy topping Patrick Fernandez and Jaja Bocago, 21-16, 21-16, and Espana and Ito beating Gary Bandoja and Cheng Saturno, 21-17, 22-20. Patrick and Bocago settled for the third place honors after outlasting Bandoja and Saturno, 21-18, 20-22, 21-9,
In the mixed doubles, Edralin and Jen Savellano booked the first finals ticket after sweeping Nathan Guerrero and Nicola Malasarte, 21-8, 21-12, and the first pair will face siblings Janelle and Jordan Pangilinan. The Pangilinans won over Glenn Bluutjens and Hannah Choi in the other semis duel last weekend, 21-14, 21-19. Guerrero and Malasarte finished third after a win via default against Choi and Bluutjens.
In the mixed doubles BC, husband and wife Patrick and Windy Fernandez forged a title tiff against Oh and Reyes after edging Chris Hilario and Merlie Savellano, 13-21, 21-3, 21-13, in the second Final Four pairing in the division last week, In the first semis game, Oh and Reyes routed Guerrero and Miles Rodriguez, 21-11, 21-8.
The remaining finals matches will be played this weekend along with the consolation games in the other divisions.
