Green Flash Comics and the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library teamed up to hold the 3rd Free Comic Book Day on Saturday. JKPL will host the event from 9am to 11:30am before it moves to GFC’s store at the Joeten Superstore (formerly Price Costco) from 12nn to 7pm.

There will also be a comic and Manga-themed art contest, which will incorporate elements of art education with visual arts and it will be open to all ages. JKPL’s Collaborative Summer Library Programs and first-ever Magic: The Gathering Gaming Clinic will also take place.

Free comic books, along with other giveaways and promotional items, will be available for distribution at JKPL on Saturday where the pre-registration begins for the JKPL CSL Program will also be held.

A panel of judges will determine the top three art contest submissions. Prizes will be distributed to the top three winners.

Only submission per person; art style is not limited to Manga; art style must be creature-themed, no humans; artwork must be hand-drawn on paper no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches; and completed original artwork must be submitted to JKPL no later than 5:30pm today are the guidelines for the Manga Art Contest.

The following information must also be printed legibly at the back of the artwork: artist’s full name, library card number, village, and current school (if applicable).

Submissions will be posted on Facebook. Top selected winner will have a copy of their work posted in the library. Original work will be returned to owner.

The event is similar to the nationwide FCBD event that involves the entire comic book industry with the participation of direct market comic book retail stores.

Traditionally, the annual observance is held on May 4 in the mainland, but shipping delays have caused the observance in the CNMI to be scheduled for the second Saturday of June.
