Drunken man allegedly smashes glass with whiskey on girlfriend’s face
A 57-year-old intoxicated man was arrested for allegedly degrading his girlfriend and then smashing a glass of whiskey on her face and injuring her during a farewell party with their friends at a house in Dandan last Sunday night.
Chi Kwang Liu was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
The victim was taken to the Commonwealth Health Center after she suffered an inch-long laceration below her left eye that required seven stitches to close. The bridge of her nose was also fractured, police said.
At a hearing on Tuesday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $6,250 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for June 13 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Charity Hodson was appointed as counsel for Liu. Assistant attorney general Betsy Weintraub appeared for the government.
Police Detective Peter A. Aldan stated in his report that Liu and his girlfriend attended their friend’s farewell party at the latter’s residence in Dandan on Sunday.
After Liu got drunk with whiskey he started degrading his girlfriend in front of their friends. He shouted at her that he was going to cancel her CW permit and kick her out of his house.
Liu also degraded his girlfriend’s mother, who was not on island.
The girlfriend got angry and splashed the water with ice in her glass cup at Liu’s face. Liu got upset and threw his glass cup half filled with whiskey at her face.
The glass cup shattered on his girlfriend’s face, causing her to feel dizzy. She then called 911 to report the incident.
A responding police officer called for medics as the victim’s face was bleeding profusely.
Police then arrested Liu.
