SSHS’ NA program coordinator post still open

The Nursing Assistant Program coordinator at Saipan Southern High School is still open, according to principal Martha Kintol. The position became vacant after Leticia Reyes resigned after last month’s Pinning and Path of Light Ceremony of the program’s Cohort 6.

Cohort 6 was the last class that Reyes handled as she is now working in a private health clinic on Saipan. The former Commonwealth Health Center nursing director started the program together with various partners in 2009.

Kintol said that a job vacancy announcement remains for the position and she’s encouraging those who are interested to apply. The program is now in Cohort 7, which helped in organizing Cohort 6’s Pinning and Light Ceremony at the World Resort’s Royal Taga Hall.

The job vacancy announcement is on the website of the Public School System at cnmipss.org. The PSS would screen and interview all applicants for the career and technical education instructor, NA program coordinator.

“We’re still in the process of looking for Nurse Letty’s [Reyes] replacement. Those who are interested should submit their application and credentials at PSS,” said Kintol in a telephone interview with the Saipan Tribune.

“All applicants must comply with tall the requirements and will undergo the screening process. PSS would then screen the qualifications of all applicants and interview them,” added Kintol.

Reyes, during last month’s ceremony, told Saipan Tribune that it is with a heavy heart that she leaves the program that she has started but said to those who had graduated and Cohort 7 to rise up to every challenge.

She has also encouraged those who have completed the program and Cohort 7 to pursue a nursing degree since it has been the program’s aim to produce local nurses that would work and take care of the sick and elderly in the CNMI.

“We thought of the idea of starting it at an early level. Introduce a program for high school students. We started from scratch. There are times that I don’t know if what we’re doing was right. It was all trial and error,” said Reyes in an earlier interview.

The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., the Northern Marianas College, the Public School System, and the Workforce Investment Agency were their partners with SSHS as the learning institution for the pilot program.

The incoming CET instructor for the NA program will supervise Cohort 7 headed by president Tommy Son.
