A 48-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stalking his former common-law wife despite a court order requiring him from staying away from her.
Hari N. Talukdar was arrested for violating an order of protection and disturbing the peace.
At a hearing on Friday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $4,250 cash bail.
A private counsel will be appointed for Talukdar. Preliminary hearing will be on June 6 at 9am.
Police Detective Peter A. Aldan stated in his report that last Wednesday at 8pm, the victim parked her car in the grassy area of the Social Hall at Mount Carmel Cathedral.
Aldan said as the victim walked on the road at the north side of the church, she saw Talukdar walking toward her so she immediately turned around and went back to her car.
She picked up a friend to talk and they then proceeded to the airport’s sports field at 9:30pm. Not long after she parked the car, she noticed a blue Toyota Yaris belonging to Talukdar parked behind her vehicle.
The Toyota Yaris then left. She was scared so she left the place. She noticed that Talukdar’s car was following her. Her friend got scared and asked her to drop her at Twins Market in Dandan.
When they arrived at Twins Market in Dandan, she saw the Toyota Yaris again pulling over into the nearby Clean Laundry.
As she was driving on the west-bound lane of Monsignor Guerrero Road, she saw again the same car parallel to her vehicle. She then observed Talukdar driving the car, smiling sarcastically at her.
She shouted at him for following her. She drove to Mount Carmel Cathedral to calm herself down because she was nervous.
She again saw Talukdar’s car entering the southern entrance of the cathedral toward her direction. She tried to take a video recording of the car, but it left the area.
She then called 911 for assistance. She told a police officer that she has a court order of protection against the suspect that will expire on April 13, 2017.
The police officer heard through radio that Talukdar was filing a counter complaint against the victim and requesting for police assistance in Afetnas.
The officer drove to Afetnas, where he arrested Talukdar at 12:15am on Thursday. (Ferdie de la Torre)
