MJD, PIC gain top seeding in gov’t/business caging

MJD Enterprises and Pacific Islands Club went undefeated in the regular season of the 2016 IT&E Inter-Government/Business Basketball League to earn the top seeding in the playoff round which will begin tonight at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
MJD led Pool A of the 16-team field with its 7-0 record, while PIC got the same perfect mark in Pool B. MJD finished ahead of IT&E (5-2), T Galleria (5-2), NMSA Spartans (4-3), Department of Public Safety (4-3), Commonwealth Ports Authority (3-4), BECQ (1-6), and Docomo 1 (0-7). PIC, on the other hand, lorded it over against DFEMS (5-2), Best Sunshine International (4-3), Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. (4-3), Customs (3-4), GPPC (3-4), Feds (2-5), and Docomo 2 (0-7).
All teams advanced to the playoffs, which will implement a single-elimination crossover format.
With this rule, the top-ranked MJD will take on Pool B last finisher Docomo 2 in the first playoff match tonight at 6:30pm. PIC will also start its playoff campaign tonight when it duels Pool A last placer Docomo 1 at 8:30pm.
MJD and Docomo 2 are on the west side of the bracket, which will have three other pairings. The list includes NMSA versus Customs (June 6), IT&E over Feds (June 1), and T Galleria against GPPC (June 3). The two remaining teams on the west bracket will battle for one of the two finals berth.
On the east side, the three other first round matches are as follows: CHCC vs DPS (June 6), DFEMS vs BECQ (June 1), and Best Sunshine vs CPA (June 3).
The finals between the winners of the west and east brackets will be played on June 15 at 7pm.
