A Commonwealth Utilities Corp. employee was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl on Saipan.

Sean Raboy Mendiola, 25, was arrested for sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

At a hearing on Friday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $26,250 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for June 6 at 9am.

Chief public defender Douglas Hartig was appointed as counsel for Mendiola. Assistant attorney general Emily Cohen appeared for the government.

Police Detective Dee Liza Udui stated in her report that the Department of Public Safety dispatcher received a call on Thursday morning from a woman who reported that her 10-year-old daughter was sexually abused.

Udui said the mother told police that during their argument, Mendiola started crying and asking for forgiveness that he touched the private parts of her daughter.

Udui said during an interview with the officer, Mendiola confessed that last March he touched the girl’s private parts and that he felt guilty.

Udui said the girl told police how Mendiola touched her private parts and that she was so scared to tell her mother.
