The Saipan Billiards Association honored the individual performers in the 2016 winter-spring season with Ray Matsunaga and Marc Brian Nelvis leading the list as they collected three awards each in the Thursday and Tuesday leagues.
Matsunaga collected the 8-Ball On Break awards in both the Thursday and Tuesday leagues, joining Patrick “Stallion” Cepeda and Rey Hermogenes in the latter division. He was the Top Performer award recipient in the Thursday League together with Randy Sablan and Cesar Sangalang.
All of Nelvis’ three awards—Run The Rack, and elimination round and finals most valuable player—are in the Tuesday League as he helped the Jokers IT&E Voyagers clinch the title.
Sangalang was also the Run The Rack winner in the Thursday League, while Mark Butac was the lone recipient of the Top Performer award in the Tuesday League.
Manny Mariano was the Thursday League elimination round MVP as he aided National Alamo Car Rental to a third place finish, while Joshua Woodson, who was part of regular season champ Jokers Homeboyz, was named finals MVP.
All the awardees received trophies during SBA’s banquet for the 21st edition of the tournament at the Pacific Island Club-Saipan Charley’s Cabaret.
Meanwhile, Budweiser remains the sponsor of both leagues including the postseason single elimination round tournament topped this year by Alamo (Thursday) and Jokers StraightBlackBall (Tuesday).
Sign-up is ongoing for the upcoming summer-fall season set to start in July. The Warehouse, which opened only last month, and Doro’s Lechon are the new team sponsors of both leagues.
Jonny’s Bar & Grill, Jokers Bar & Grill, Wild Bill’s Bar & Grill, Saipan Computer Service, IT&E, National Alamo Car Rental, and NTT Docomo Pacific are the location bars and team sponsors of last season.
