22 Tsunami Saipan swimmers off to Guam meet

Twenty-two Tsunami Saipan swimmers are leaving the island tomorrow to compete in the 2016 Guam Championships this weekend at the Hagatna Pool.
The club’s senior member Takumi Sugie leads the delegation and will be joined in the two-day meet by Mark Maestro, Nelson Batallones, Juhn Tenorio, Anthony Camacho-Deleon Guerrero, Arman Rechucher, Sean Gil, Isaiah Aleksenko, Hans Xu, Kouki Watanabe, Aasish Dangol, Angel De Jesus, Kimu Tammy, Sophia Gauran, Aika and Nanaka Watanabe, Ayumi Obligacion, Asaka and Shoko Litulumar, Kana Suzuki, Ashley Dangol, and Maria Batallones.
The 22 swimmers are the most that Tsunami Saipan are sending to the Guam meet and the group is also balance in terms of age group and gender.
“This is the most balance team in Tsunami Saipan’s history in the Guam meet and it shows that our program is improving a lot,” Tsunami Saipan head coach Hiro Kimura said.
Members of the Guam-bound team were selected based on their times in local meets in the 2015-2016 season and their attendance in practice sessions.
“Each swimmer must get a BB time in their events and has practice attendance of 80 percent or better,” Kimura said.
The club head coach added that Tsunami Saipan swimmers are encouraged to win or do well in local meets first before they are allowed to participate in the Guam competition. Once they qualified in the Guam meet, swimmers must also make the grade so they compete in a higher level tournament.
“So, the Guam meet is very important to our swimmers, especially those who dream of representing the club and the CNMI in international competitions,” Kimura said.
