SAN JOSE, Tinian—Bridge Investment Group sent two of its employees on May 14, 2016, to Guam to attend the mobile crane refresher course. Heavy equipment supervisor, Joseph Villagomez and heavy equipment operator, Steve Mendiola, were selected to attend the training. The fundamentals of crane operation such as how to lift a load safely can help prevent accidents and increase job site efficiency.

Island CERTS Corporation provides construction equipment regulatory testing service. The corporation also inspects heavy equipment, trains equipment operators, conducts weld inspections, and does tension tests. The specific course conducted was intended to refresh and expand the knowledge of the participants who were present. Instructor Dave Barnhouse, Guam’s practical examiner for the Crane Institute of America and NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators), touched base on how to properly manage your load, safety, distance, familiarization of the crane chart, riggings, and the different types of crane. Villagomez and Mendiola were given a test after the training, both passed and received a certificate of completion for the 8-hour educational course as well as a mobile crane operator trainee card. The next step toward being a certified crane operator for these individuals is completing a thousand hours of handling and operating a crane followed by having an instructor on site to administer the hands on test which will be the determining factor.

“I feel great, but I had to set that aside and prove myself worthy that they chose me for a reason. The sky is the limit, so why not push yourself to do bigger and greater things. Bridge Investment gave us an opportunity by hiring us and going as far as providing the right trainings for their employees. If it wasn’t for BIG we probably wouldn’t have been given this chance. It is a great honor and I will be forever grateful!” said Mendiola

Bridge Investment Group will continue its commitment to motivate and empower its employees. (PR)
