Island-wide caging playoff round starts tonight

The playoff games in the 2016 Island-wide Men’s Basketball League will begin tonight at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
In the first match at 6:30pm, the Ol’Aces will take on the NMI Rollers, while in the second game, the Ballers will face Kagman Rizers. The Ol’Aces topped the round-robin regular season in the 10-team league with their perfect 9-0 record, while the NMI Rollers were ranked at No. 8 with their 4-5 mark to catch the last bus to the playoffs. Run ‘N Gun (1-8) and Best Sunshine International (0-9) were eliminated.
The NMI Rollers tied Kagman Rizers for the seventh to eighth place in the team standings, but the latter was seeded ahead of the latter after winning their lone meeting in the regular season. The Ballers were also in a deadlock for second to third place with the Blue Haus as the two teams hold identical 6-3 records, but the former prevailed in the tiebreak due to the win over the other rule.
Meanwhile, the other pairings in the first round of the playoffs, which has a single-elimination format, are Blue Haus versus CES Electronics and Runnin’ Rebels over the 670 Sonics. Their win-or-go-home games will be played this Thursday with the Blue Haus-CES tiff set for 6:30pm and the Runnin’ Rebels-670 Sonics duel scheduled for 8pm.
The Runnin’ Rebels, 670 Sonics , and CES ended the regular season with similar 5-4 marks, but the former won the tiebreak to place at No. 4. The Sonics and CES dropped to fifth and sixth, respectively.
The single-elimination playoffs will continue on May 31 with winners in Games 2 and 3 colliding in the first semis match at 6:30pm and the victors in Games 1 and 4 meeting in the other Final Four showdown at 8pm.
Survivors of the May 31 games will square off in a best-of-three title series that will begin on June 2. Game 2 is set for June 4, while Game 3, if necessary, is slated on June 7.
