Thirteen of the 14 candidates of this year’s Queen of the Pacific transgender pageant, along with officers and members of the United Filipino Organization, joined hands in a beautification project of the FilCom pavilion beside the Civic Center in Susupe.

A total of 30 people helped in the cleanup last Sunday where five big trash bags were filled with garbage left in the vicinity.

Malou Malasarte, wife of UFO president Bong Malasarte, led the cleanup with the 13 candidates also planting flowers at the side of the pavilion.

This is the second community service done by the “Queen” candidates after giving free haircuts to the man’amko last May 13 at the Office on Aging in China Town. More than 30 elderly availed of the free service.

Fourteen are vying for the Queen of the Pacific crown, a contest for transgender candidates. The coronation night is on June 11 at the Royal Taga Hall of the Saipan World Resort with doors opening at 5pm with tickets cost $10 each.

Part of the proceeds of the pageant, which has the theme “Respect, Restore, and Save Our Natural Resources,” will be donated to volunteers of the Commonwealth Health Center Corp. to buy wheelchairs that will be used for the hospital’s renal care facility.

Pageant director Ernie Molina said the event is a part of the June 12 Pistang Pinoy celebration of the Philippine Independence Day.

Best in costume—where it must reflect the theme with indigenous or recycled materials to be used—evening gown, and swimwear are some of the special awards up for grabs, while the question-and-answer portion will be part of the criteria for judging.
