Logistics crew to prepare LibDay grounds
The 2016 Liberation Day logistics crew sub committee will begin cleaning and clearing the carnival grounds starting today, May 24, to prepare for the June 10 opening of the annual festivities.
This is a joint project by the Saipan Mayor’s Office, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., and other supporting agencies. SMO personnel will rake and bush-cut the grounds up to the May 27, while CUC will start working on the electrical hook up beginning May 28.
SMO safety officer Mac Chargualaf said they would be coordinating with CUC in putting up the lights. CUC will start charging the organizers once all the electrical connections are completed and in place.
The electrical contractors will come in to begin working in hooking up the tents of all concessionaires that will be participating in the Liberation Day carnival. Their work is expected to last until June 5.
The CUC crew will be on stand by if assistance is needed in setting up the lights in the tent. Chargualaf said his committee would also start giving out the palettes to the concessionaires.
The vendors will be allowed to move in on June 6 where they will have at least three days to decorate and set up their tents. The trash bins and portalets will then be in place on June 9.
Four 20×40 tents, in case if it rains, and six picnic tables will be put up in one area for people who will be eating and will be watching the nightly shows. No tents will be put in front of the beer garden so customers can still watch the live entertainment.
The committee has also agreed that floats could be anything not only lowboys. They could either be a pick up truck, a trailer or any other vehicle.
The boat ramp at the fishing base, behind the fish market, will be off limits to vehicles or foot traffic on the July 4 celebration as this will be used as the landing area of the skydivers. The fireworks would be set up in the same place as last year and would last between 15 and 20 minutes.
The committee would also start sending out invitation letters to all VIPs or any foreign dignitary that would be invited to join the festivities. VIPs would need to RSVP so they would know how many would attend.
