Ghatoliyool clan forms Chief Aghurubw Foundation

The Chief Aghurubw Foundation, Inc., a chartered non-profit corporation, was established by the Ghatoliyool Clan to protect, promote, educate, and research the rich heritage, cultural values, and beliefs of the Refaluwasch of the Northern Mariana Islands; to promote harmonious relationships of the Refaluwasch and other nationalities in the CNMI; to promote education social and economic and political aspirations and welfare of all Refaluwasch and members of the Foundation.

Chief Aghurubw, of the Ghatoliyool Clan from Satawal Island, is widely recognized by the Refaluwasch community for his efforts to resettle his people on Saipan after a major typhoon devastated their islands in 1815. Commemoration ceremonies are held annually in September on Managaha (Ghalaghaal) Island where the chief’s monument stands. This year will mark the 46th annual commemoration of Chief Aghurubw.

CAF is organizing various activities and special projects to help fulfill its mission. A major fundraising activity will kick off in August 2016 at Saipan World Resort.

The general membership of Chief Aghurubw Foundation recently elected its officers including Pedro R. Deleon Guerrero (president), Felix Rabauliman (vice president), Tricia Taitano (secretary), and Arlene Billy Cholymay (treasurer).

Elected to the Board of Directors were Antonio R. Rasiang, Isidro Seman, and Donald C. Barcinas.

Jose R. Lifoifoi, Herman R. Deleon Guerrero, Sen. Sixto Igisomar, Rep. Felicidad Ogumoro, Carolinian Affairs Office executive assistant John Tagabuel, Lino Olopai, Jesus Elameto, and Jose Limes were selected as advisors to the Chief Aghurubw Foundation.

CAF welcomes any indigenous persons of the Northern Marianas to be member of the foundation.
